ProfessorWilliam R Calero-Caceres

BIO

Professor William Ricardo Calero Cáceres is a microbiologist and biotechnologist with expertise in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), bacteriophage biology, environmental microbiology, and One Health surveillance. His research integrates genomics, metagenomics, and multi-omics approaches to investigate high-priority pathogens, antimicrobial resistance genes, and microbial dynamics across environmental, animal, and food production systems.

He leads UTA-RAM One Health at the Universidad Técnica de Ambato (Ecuador), where he coordinates projects focused on the development of lytic bacteriophage biobanks, genomic characterization of bacterial-priority pathogens, and surveillance of AMR in wastewater and agro-ecosystems. His work bridges basic microbiology, translational biotechnology, and public health impact.

He serves as editor and guest editor in international peer-reviewed journals and actively collaborates with global research networks on phage therapy, AMR mitigation, and microbial risk assessment.
