Dr. Suma is a medical doctor and currently Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Director of WHO Collaborating centre for LF MMDP at Govt TD Medical College, India.Research on neglected tropical disease was started in 1989 with a grant received from TDR by the research unit.. Trained by TDR on International research ethics, clinical trial monitoring, clinical trial audit, Inspection and public health. Continuing to do research in NTDs since then for the last 3 decades .Worked as facilitator of training on "Good clinical practice" courses organised by TDR . WHO has designated the research unit as WHO collabring centre for Lymphatic Filariasis MMDP with Dr Suma as Director. Training workshops on LF morbidity Management and Disability prevention is done for stake holders of endemic countries at WHO Regional, National and sub national levels. IN 2020 awarded the 'Distinguished International Fellow by ASTMH'. As part of the work in Kerala Health university of Health Sciences facilitate research training and mentorship for the students and faculty of Medical Colleges. . Involved in patient care as a physician on daily basis.
