Dr. Bhattacharya , MD (Medicine) was Director, National Institute of cholera and enteric Diseases, Kolkata & Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna, India and Additional Director-General of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Deli, India. I was a Temporary International Professional (TIP) in TDR/WHO for 2 years and 8 months. I have conducted several studies with TDR on Visceral Leishmaniasis including Trial of Miltefosine, Paromomycin and Phase 4 trial of Miltefosine. I was part of the investigators conducting research on the different aspects of Kala-azar Elimination Programme. These studies contributed towards conceptualization of the Programme of Kala-azar elimination from the South-East Asia Region. As a TIP in SEARO, I was the focal point for support, advice and implementation of the Programme. I was member of the Regional Technical Advisory Group (RTAG) of Kala-azar Elimination Programme in the SE-Region. I was a member of the Scientific Technical Advisory Group (STAG) of TDR, Geneva.
