Dr Hedtke received her PhD in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior from the University of Texas in Austin. She followed that with a post-doc working on genomics of pathogens of bees at Cornell University, before pivoting to work on genomics of infectious diseases in humans, predominantly nematode parasites. She currently works as a research-only academic at La Trobe University in Australia.
