BIO
Rashad Abdul-Ghani received a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sana’a University, in 1998. He pursued his postgraduate studies at Alexandria University, where he received a Master of Public Health Sciences in 2010 and a PhD in Applied and Molecular Parasitology in 2014. Currently, Rashad holds the position of professor at the Department of Medical Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sana'a University. He is also the Director of the Tropical Disease Research Center at the University of Science and Technology, Sana'a. His research interests primarily revolve around tropical parasitic and vector-borne diseases. In addition to his teaching and research duties, Rashad has been actively involved in the development and review of course specifications for medical curricula and served as a referee for medical and paramedical programs at a number of Yemeni universities. Over the course of his career, he has participated in several training workshops, conferences and committees and has supervised undergraduate projects as well as master and doctoral theses. Rashad has undertaken principal investigator and co-investigator roles for several research projects. Through these experiences, he has gained expertise in study design, proposal development, research implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and statistical analysis. Rashad published several original articles, reviews, perspectives, and editorials in internationally reputable journals and reviewed tens of manuscripts for indexed journals, including those published by Elsevier, Springer and BioMed Central. He received the "Certificate of Excellence in Reviewing" for the year 2013 from Elsevier in conjunction with Acta Tropica, the "Certificate of Outstanding Reviewer” for the year 2014 from Acta Tropica, and the "Certificate of Outstanding Contribution to Reviewing" from Acta Tropica in December 2016. Rashad serves as an Editorial Board Member for Acta Tropica (Elsevier) and BMC Infectious Diseases (Springer Nature). He is also a Scientific Council Member on the Editorial Board of the Annals of Parasitology. Furthermore, he has worked as a temporary WHO consultant for Yemen's National Malaria Control Program. From August 2018 to July 2022, he served as a member of the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on In Vitro Diagnostics (SAGE IVD). He is a member of the Uniting to Combat NTDs Consultative Forum. In 2021, Rashad won the TDR Global Career Impact Contest organized by TDR Global and Social Entrepreneurship to Spur Health (SESH) for TDR-supported scientists addressing infectious diseases of poverty.
