ProfessorOtavio Henrique Thiemann

Graduated in Agricultural Engineering from Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (1988), master's degree in Biological Sciences (Biophysics) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation FIOCRUZ (1991). His doctorate degree was obtained from the Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology program at the University of California Los Angeles (1998). He is currently an Associate Professor at the São Carlos Physics Institute (IFSC) of the University of São Paulo (USP). Is chairman of the Graduate Commission and Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Physics IFSC (2013-2016). Was the proponent of the creation of the Bachelor course of Physical and Biomolecular Sciences (IFSC-USP), being the coordinator of the course from 2006 to 2013. He was the president/coordinator of the Coordination Commission of Inter-unity (IFSC IQSC and ICMC) graduate course in "Licenciatura em Ciências" from 2004 to 2010. He is a member of the Brazilian Protozoology Society and of the Brazilian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Has experience in Biochemistry, with emphasis on Molecular and Structural Biology of Parasites and Structural Virology, especially acting on leishmania, trypanosomes and Leishmania RNA virus (LRV). The following aspects are the focus of the research: Molecular Cloning, Target Validation, Structural Biology, Protein Translation, Synthesis of Selenocisteínas and Virus Structure.
