DrMamadou Brahima Coulibaly

Since my early steps in research, vector behavior and ecology and vector control have been of interest to me. I was involved as an investigator in studies on vectors ecological distributions in regions of Mali. My training for a PhD, at the University of Notre Dame helped me acquire knowledge in genomics in general but also particularly in the genomics of the ecological adaptation of the Anopheles gambiae complex, the first major malaria vector in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2006 upon graduation from the University of Notre Dame, with a PhD in biological sciences, I returned to Mali to lead the laboratory of vectors genomics at the Malaria Research & Training Center (MRTC) located at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako. My current research lines include mainly: entomological evaluations of transmission blocking vaccine candidates against malaria using experimental feeds, the development of genetic approaches for malaria vector control, insecticide resistance monitoring. With emerging and re-emerging diseases such as dengue, yellow fever, zika constituting major public health issues, we are initiating research lines in Aedes surveillance and control to help orient decision-making on control strategies. In addition, I am involved in operational research oriented towards vector control of diseases such as malaria and dengue to help making informed decisions by policymakers. In that regards I work closely with the National Malaria Control Programme and the General Departmemt of Health both under the Ministry of Health.
