Hiwot Amare Hailemariam is a medical doctor who is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Institute of health, Jimma University, Ethiopia. She has more than six years of experience in clinical service, teaching and research. She has been teaching Internal medicine to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. As a clinician she has been treating various cases including HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and non-communicable diseases. Hiwot, also held various administrative positions including Head of Department of Internal Medicine and transitional Chief Clinical Director at Jimma University Medical center.

She has been progressively increasing her research experience by involving in various research projects and teams. She is working as a co investigator in the JUCAN (Jimma University and University of Copenhagen alliance in nutrition) research team that mainly studies nutrition and its association with infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases. Also, she is a principal investigator of a study entitled adult cardiovascular diseases in Jimma zone, Ethiopia, a co investigator in a clinical trial studying atrial fibrillation in Rheumatic heart disease and longitudinal community-based study on Helicobacter pylori.

Hiwot had been awarded as best Internal medicine resident in Ethiopia in 2015 and was a recipient of the Mandela Washington fellowship for Young African Leaders in public administration in 2017.
