BIO
Professor Grace Olubukunmi ADEOYE
A Professor of Parasitology and Public Health at the Department of Zoology (Parasitology & Bioinformatics Unit), University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos.
A PhD holder in Medical Parasitology and M. Sc. Degree in Public Health in Developing Countries, both degrees from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, UK. I had six months training in molecular biology techniques at the Natural History Museum (Biomedical Section), London, UK. I also obtained training in Bioinformatics at SAMBI, South Africa. I have twenty six (26) years of teaching and research experience at the Department of Zoology, University of Lagos, Nigeria. I have conducted many epidemiological surveys, especially with School Children, on Neglected Tropical Diseases including schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis, onchocerciasis and loiasis. I have also carried out a number of researches on malaria. The results of all the studies have been published in peer-reviewed journals. In the year 2000, I conducted the Monitoring and Evaluation of Water and Sanitation Project in Oju and Obi Local Government areas of Benue State, Nigeria, a project managed by a British NGO WaterAid and sponsored by the Department for International Development (DFID), UK (July – August, 2000). I participated actively in the Evaluation of the Sustainability of the CDTI Project in Anambra and Ogun States, Nigeria (2003/2004) and in Uganda (2004), an assignment given by African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control and the World Health Organization (WHO/APOC). My current interest is in the molecular, bioinformatics and genomic study of Plasmodium, Schistosoma and soil-transmitted helminthes, and collaborators would be most appreciated. I am also interested in the diagnosis and control of Neglected Tropical Diseases. E-mail address: gadeoye@unilag.edu.ng; goadeoye@gmail.com
