DrDaniel Kiboi

I am a molecular biologist with a special interest in biochemistry of malaria parasites. I was awarded PhD in Molecular Medicine in July 2015 at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya.
My Postgraduate research focused on selection and identification of molecular markers associated with antimalarial drugs piperaquine and lumefantrine resistance in rodent malaria parasites Plasmodium berghei ANKA. Using Whole Genome Sequencing we mapped promising mutations in proteins that are highly credible drug transporters and targets.
During my PhD training through Cambridge Africa Alborada Fellowship, I visited Drs Oliver Billker and Julian Rayner Laboratory at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, U.K. I trained on malaria transfection techniques using gene knockout and epitope tagging, PlasmoGEM vectors for P. berghei and their application in validating resistance markers/drug transporters/targets. I later started and continued with the P. berghei transfection work in KEMRI, Nairobi.
In June 2016 I joined the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust programme, Kilifi, Kenya as PostDoc under the DELTAS-WACCBIP programme with key focus on identifying and extending validation of Plasmodium proteins associated not only with drug resistance but also to genes of interest in malaria immunity.
