BIO
I have a background in Medicine, with doctoral training in epidemiology and infectious diseases (supported by TDR scholarship). I have conducted and collaborated in a wide range of epidemiological and intervention studies of infectious diseases, mainly neglected diseases of poverty that affect rural communities in Colombia, and have experience in the use of quantitative and mixed methods. Since 2003, as a faculty member of the Facultad Nacional de Salud Pública of the Universidad de Antioquia I have conducted research projects and trained masters and doctoral students in epidemiology. Since 2010 I have collaborated with the University of Manitoba in Canada and have been the site coordinator of the International Infectious Disease and Global Health Training Program (IIDGHTP), a training program for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows lead by the University of Manitoba that involves research institutions in Canada, Kenia, India and Colombia and was funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Since 2015, I have been the site coordinator of the International Post Graduate Training Scheme sponsored by WHO/TDR, a program whose aim is to promote Implementation Research capacity through scholarship support for master students from low and middle income countries from the Latin-American region. This training program has an emphasis on implementation research on infectious diseases of poverty. I am very thankful to TDR for their support for my doctoral training. For me is an honor to coordinate TDRs posgraduate training for the PAHO region since 2015, I think this is a wonderful opportunity to support and mentor new scientists for the region and future TDR grantees.
