DrBetwel John Msugupakulya

My research focuses on the ecology and behavior of disease vectors, aiming to characterize transmission drivers, improve and strengthen vector surveillance for malaria elimination, monitor the effectiveness of existing vector control interventions, and optimize vector control technologies. I am particularly interested in developing and evaluating complementary vector control interventions to accelerate progress towards malaria elimination.

I am also engaged in research at the intersection of climate and health, particularly how climate variability and extreme weather events affect malaria transmission patterns. My current work involves applying climate information to improve early warning systems and strengthen public health preparedness in malaria-endemic areas.

More broadly, I am committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and translating research into practice. I aim to contribute to the development of innovative, locally relevant vector control solutions while supporting capacity building across the regions most affected by malaria. Through this work, I hope to play a meaningful role in the global effort to reduce and ultimately eliminate malaria.
