BIO
Beatrice is an expert advisor on global health, with more than 25 years of experience in international organizations, academia, and the private sector. She is a co-founder of and leads SIHI, the Social Innovation in Health Initiative at TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases co-sponsored by UNDP, UNICEF, the World Bank and the World Health Organization. Beatrice strives to make a difference in vulnerable populations’ life through better health care delivery. She believes in the power of community-led innovations and engagement of all health actors in order to reach Universal Health Coverage and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Beatrice joined TDR in 1997 as Manager of research & development projects, pioneering public-private partnerships approaches. As the Head of TDR programme management, she played a critical role in turning around TDR during the financial crisis in 2011-2013, by bringing in sound, streamlined processes for resilient financial management, improved risk management, and control. In 2014 Beatrice has led the establishment of innovative new partnerships, such as the TDR Global alumni programme and the Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI). She secured funding and fostered the institutionalization of social innovation in low- and middle-income countries, and at the global level within TDR and WHO. While in South Africa in 2001-2002, she conceptualized an initiative to strengthen project management skills in health research in Africa and Latin America, now led and implemented by research institutions. Beatrice holds a Pharm D and an MPH. In 2006-2007 she had a faculty appointment as Lecturer at Yale University.
