    Collapse overview
Dionicia Gamboa Vilela is a biologist with a Master in Biochemistry, both from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) in Lima, Peru. In 2008 she obtained a PhD in Biomedical sciences from University of Maastricht, The Netherlands, in collaboration with the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp (Belgium). Currently, She is an associated professor at the Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Pharmacology unit, Department of Cellular and Molecular Sciences, Faculty of Science and Philosophy (FACIEN) at UPCH. She is also member and chief of the Research Office at the Institute of Tropical Medicine “Alexander Von Humboldt” (IMTAvH), UPCH. She is also coordinator of posgraduate programs at UPCH (Master and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and PhD program in Life Sciencies). About her research activities, she is the coordinator of the Malaria laboratory, that belongs to both units, FACIEN and IMTAvH. Her team carries out multidisciplinary studies in malaria (molecular epidemiology, cell biology and vector biology) looking for better tools to identify malaria infections and to understand its transmission at the Peruvian Amazon region. In 2003 she received the international UNESCO-LOREAL Prize for Young Women in Science, in 2013 she received the OWSD – Elsevier Foundation Award representing Latin America & Caribbean and in 2015 she won the national version of the UNESCO-LOREAL-CONCYTEC prize as a Peruvian researcher. Since 2013 she is also member of the Peruvian National Academy of Science.
