Overview Dr Fredeick Wurapa graduated from the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center at the University of Buffalo in 1964. After his internship and residency in internal medicine, he pursued an MPH degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health in 1967. In 1968 he was appointed lecturer in the Department of Community Health of the University of Ghana Medical School. He was the field coordinator of the Medical School's Danfa Rural Health and Family Planning WHO Epidemiologist at the Center for Research and Training in tropical Diseases, Ndola, Zambia. He led a team of researchers for eight years at the Center conducting intervention research into disease control issues related to malaria, schistosomiasis, helminthiasis and trypanosomiasis. An active staff development programme produced national and interrnational researchers who became the permanent staff of the Tropical Diseases Research Center, (TDRC) Ndola. He was reassigned to the WHO Regional Office for Africa, Brazzaville in 1986 as regional adviser on parasitic diseases. During his tenure in Brazzaville, he also coordinated the activities of WHO TDR in the African countries. He was a founding member of WHO International Commission for the Certification of Eradication of Dracunculiasis. He retired from WHO in October 1997. Since his retirement he has been appointed Ag Director of the School of Public Health, University of Ghana from 2000 to 2003, founding head of department of the Department of Health Policy, Planning and Management from 2003 to 2007 and Director of the Ghana Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme from 2007 to 2013.
